Welcome to the blog, ladies, gentlemen, and otherwise!
While I'm obviously not in Germany yet, I thought it might be prudent to begin at the beginning and introduce myself and this blog. Although I can't imagine why you would be reading this if you didn't already know, my name is Kirk and I will be using this website to document my three-week stay in Germany that starts on Thursday. I'm leaving for the airport at 3:00 tomorrow, arriving by 6:00, and then waiting for four hours with the other 38 prizewinners (details in the description box) until I get on the plane at around 10:00.
For those of you who are here because of the automatic emails, please leave a comment in the box below and let me know if that system worked out okay for you. In any case, you at least have the link by now (since you're reading this) and I would suggest you bookmark it for future access. My goal is to post every night (with pictures uploaded to Flickr or directly to this website), documenting my adventures in the BRD. I'll also be including a German word of the day, a word which will relate to the events in the blog post. Here's today's:
German Word of the Day / Deutsches Wort des Tages
